The collaboration between Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh continues with a limited-edition bespoke S-Class and a capsule collection. In late 2021, Abloh and Mercedes-Maybach will unveil “Project MAYBACH”, drawing inspiration from that collaboration.
Abloh designed the vehicle before he passed away last year, and there are only 150 units in total. The Mercedes-Maybach Maybach by Virgil Abloh is a collaboration based on a fully-equipped S-Class S680 with the two-tone color palette of glossy “Obsidian Black” and “Sand.” This color palette extends onto the interior of the vehicle, including the four seats, steering wheel, doors, lower dashboard, floor mats, and ceiling. Multiple times throughout the car’s interior, the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos complete the design.
In addition to the unique details, Maybach MBUX’s updated interface also incorporates hand-picked visual elements. The car also comes with a custom wooden box with a replica of the car in 1/18 scale, two keys, and a carabiner hook.
Along with the car, the capsule collection was designed in collaboration with Off-Whiteβ’ and features vintage-washed T-shirts, half-brushed cotton fleece crewnecks and hoodies, canvas baseball caps, and racing gloves made of canvas, neoprene, and suede, all in “Sand” with black details.
Mercedes-Benz Group AG’s Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener announced the launch of the latest project:
βIβm incredibly proud of the work we have created in collaboration with Virgil. From Project Gelaendewagen, which set the benchmark for fashion/automotive collaborations with our iconic G-Class, to βProject MAYBACHβ which brought the distinguished Mercedes-Maybach heritage into the future, together with Virgil we truly broke new ground. The limited edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh exemplifies the symbiosis between innovative design and ultimate craftsmanship now available on the road.β
The car and apparel are currently available through Off-Whiteβ’, Farfetch, and Maybach Icons of Luxury.
