RIP iPod, Apple Discontinues The iPod After 21 Years

The end of era has come.

After 21 years, Apple has announced that they are discontinuing the production of the iPod.

The iPod, initially designed by Jony Ive, was introduced in 2001. The concept of having all your favorite music in your pocket quickly became a phenomenon.

As the iPod helped usher in a new way of consuming music, the end of an era has come. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said in a statement, “music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry – it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared.”

Until supplies last, customers can still buy iPods from Apple.
