Rumah Gemah Ripah, the collective organizer, has renewed performances after a two-year break during the pandemic season. This time, they will hold an experimental duo from Yogyakarta, Senyawa, to show on October 29, 2022, at Pasar Tunjungan Surabaya.
Senyawa is a experimental-duo containing Rully Shabara (Vocals) & Wukir Suryadi (Bamboo, Guitar). Their names are widespread since the group has traveled the world to show their work. Their latest album, Alkisah, was released in various formats by dozens of independent labels worldwide, including compact discs (CDs), cassette tapes, and vinyl LPs. The event on October 29 will be their first time performing in Surabaya.
Alkisah, their latest album, is about an imagined community that would one day dwell in a post-apocalyptic world. That future has not yet arrivedβand may never arrive. Because, according to Senyawa’s disclosure from the “Second Decade” repertory anthology, the new civilization is in the middle of a fast-paced calamity that always lurks in this dying world.
Enola, a Surabaya-based shoegaze/experimental unit, will start the show at Pasar Tunjungan later that night. They would like to perform with a different setβinstead of shoegaze, Enola will perform with an ambient concept at the later performance.
