The Collecting Cars auction site just listed a 1991 Porsche 911 (964) Baja Prototype # 1 by Russell Built Fabrication. Porsche’s Baja Prototype has a Rothsport Road & Race 3.8-liter flat-six engine (360hp and 310lb-ft of torque) teamed with a six-speed G50 transmission, which is considered the ultimate off-road 911.
It started out as a 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, but today that car is modified to handle even the most treacherous off-road conditions thanks to its rigid 4130 Chromoly race roll cage, full Motec electrical replacement, an increased width of 15 inches, carbon fiber roof scoop, driving lamp pod, heavy-duty front and rear bumpers, lightweight doors, and custom-designed suspension — even after all those modifications, the prototype is still 100 pounds lighter than its stock version.
